Bridging Circular Value Chains for Permanent Magnets

Bridging Circular Value Chains for Permanent Magnets
19 May 2026 I 09:00 - 16:00
University Foundation (Meeting Room A)
Rue d’Egmont 11, 1000 Belgium
The event “Bridging Circular Value Chains for Permanent Magnets” brings together European policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and EU-funded projects to advance collaboration in the field of sustainable rare earth and permanent magnet value chains. Organised within the framework of the SICAPERMA (I3) project, and in synergy with PERMANENT (Horizon Europe) and REMHub, the event aims to strengthen interregional cooperation and accelerate the transition toward circular, resilient, and strategically autonomous European value chains for permanent magnets.
The morning session will provide a strategic overview of the European Critical Raw Materials landscape, highlighting policy developments, industrial challenges, and innovation pathways. Project presentations will showcase current progress in dismantling, recycling, and re-manufacturing of permanent magnets, followed by a high-level panel discussion addressing key challenges and opportunities in building scalable circular value chains.
In the second part of the day, the event will transition into a capacity-building workshop, focusing on dismantling and pre-processing of magnet-containing products — a critical first stage in closing the loop for rare earth magnets. The workshop will offer technical insights, practical approaches, and interactive exchange aimed at supporting replication and deployment in less-developed regions and SMEs.
The afternoon will conclude with a joint workshop with PERMANENT, dedicated to innovative permanent magnet production and end-use applications, connecting recycled materials, advanced manufacturing technologies, and industrial demand across sectors such as automotive, wind energy, and electronics. This event provides a unique platform to align European initiatives, foster new partnerships, and contribute to the EU’s strategic objectives under the Critical Raw Materials Act.
